Cygames Ends Sponsorship Agreement with Professional Fighting Game Team “Cygames Beast”

Cygames, which has sponsored the professional fighting game team Cygames Beast since March 2017, ended its sponsorship agreement at the end of February 2020.

Up to this point, Cygames has signed sponsorship agreements with Daigo Umehara and various other renowned professional fighting game players. By creating and supporting the activities of Cygames Beast, we have worked to build a foundation on which professional players can thrive, as well as promote the advancement of fighting games within the video game industry and beyond. And just as we had hoped, the members of Cygames Beast have proven themselves time and time again across numerous tournaments, thanks in no small part to their hard work and the support of their fans.

With the Japanese release of Granblue Fantasy: Versus on February 6, 2020, Cygames made its entry into the world of fighting games as a producer. Given these circumstances, Cygames has decided that continuing to sponsor a professional fighting game team may generate conflicts of interest, which would adversely affect the players. In addition, Cygames has largely achieved what it set out to do when it first started its sponsorship activities. With these factors in mind, it was decided that this was a good point at which to end the sponsorship agreement.

Although the sponsorship agreement with Cygames Beast has ended, we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every team member for their hard work and dedication, as well as wish them the best in their future as professional players. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the fans that supported Cygames Beast on their journey.
